  5. Here are my comments while creating this test:

  8. AR        This program will not accept wildcards, so archiving a whole
  9.           directory is not so easy.
  10.  
  11. ARI       Very slow.
  12.  
  13. ARJ       v2.42c (BETA_4 TEST release), there is a slight dis-improvement in
  14.           compression, and no real improvements in speed, just cosmetic
  15.           changes, with some new features.
  16.  
  17. BSArc     I hope that I have used this program correctly, but the docs were
  18.           in Russian.
  19.  
  20. CRUSH     Crush is not really an archiver, it's a bit like TAR, where is
  21.           just stores all the files in one big file, and then lets another
  22.           archiver do the work.  Looks like you don't have to use UUC.EXE &
  23.           US.EXE now for UC2 useage with v1.8.
  24.  
  25. CODEC     v3.21 This is now quicker when compressing but slightly slower to
  26.           decompress.  The compression switches -0 to -10, now give slightly
  27.           different results than v3.10.
  28.  
  29. HA        Very slow.  But the latest beta version (v0.999b) is now even
  30.           quicker when extracting.
  31.  
  32. IZIP386   This works much better and quicker if QEMM is not loaded.

  34. JARCHIVE  Will not accept wildcards with directory paths.
  35.  
  36. LHARK     The option -c5 does not work, and always gives CRC errors on
  37.           extraction.
  38.  
  39. LIMIT     v1.2, seems to be slightly quicker when compressing, but slower
  40.           when extracting.
  41.  
  42. NULIB     This program will not accept wildcards, so archiving a whole
  43.           directory is not so easy.
  44.  
  45. QUANTUM   Quantum really disagrees with QEMM, and would only work with QEMM
  46.           unloaded.
  47.  
  48. QUARK     The version I have has an english interface but Russian docs.  Ok,
  49.           but insists on keeeping some of the file path.
  50.  
  51. RAR       v1.55, this version, has improvements in speed, but again loses
  52.           this advantage due to even worse compression results.
  53.  
  54. SAR       This does not like paths in the command line.
  55.  
  56. SARJ      This program which creates solid archives using ARJ, is on a par
  57.           with CRUSH, using the maxim of 'tar before compress'.
  58.  
  59. SQWEZ     This program now creates .SQZ files as well as self-extracting
  60.           files.  Please note that this version of SQWEZ can have its
  61.           compression level altered, but you are unable to change this from
  62.           the command line.
  63.  
  64. UC        This latest release (UC II r3 PRO) does have some minor
  65.           compression improvements, and now seems to be slightly quicker to
  66.           compress.  The new SuperOptimize options doesn't seem to give that
  67.           much benefit for the time it takes and is not that consistent, but
  68.           make sure you compress with -tst before using the SuperOptimizer.

  70. X1        Very good, keep an eye out for the final release, should knock the
  71.           spots of the other archivers.  X1 is getting better and better,
  72.           and is going to be a headache for the other authors.  Now includes
  73.           a manual.

  75. YAC       The latest version (1.02) is the first non beta copy, and on my
  76.           tests has a very small decrease on is overall performance.   Apart
  77.           from that it is still a very competative product.
